Miss K’s Baptism

On January 31st, some of our nearest and dearest joined us to celebrating the Christening of our daughter into the Catholic Church. It was a beautiful day and we enjoyed pawning off our daughter to the arms and hearts of people we love very much.

We were able to Baptize her in the same Church where we got married in 2012. That was important to us since we are still in the area so why not take advantage even though it’s no longer our home Church?

She did very well and only got a little fussy for about 5-10 minutes before passing back out with a position change. That’s pretty much how it always goes with her.

After the Baptism, we headed back to my parents where we had lunch and everyone got to spend more time with her.

Choosing Godparents was very difficult for us.  As Catholics, the Godparents needed to be Catholic — or at least one of them.  We have a small great group of friends who just happen to be Catholic and who have been our family since 2008.  They actually knew my husband before I did and I just kind of worked myself into the group when I started joining the Catholic ministry at the college.  I really wanted to reserve the Godfather for when we had a boy, but oh well.  And the Godmother we chose, well she has become a very integral part of my life, much like the others in the group.  However, she is probably the most similar to myself in personality and in our views of the Church.  It just so happens that the Godparents are brother and sister and their entire family is like our second family.

Oh there is another funny part about these two in relation to my husband and I that I’ll share at the end of this post.

Here are some snapshots of Baby K Charming’s Baptism:

It was my first semester at the college and I knew I wanted to be an active member of the Catholic ministry.  The Godmother was referred to me because we were both members of a particular Catholic sect; she was also a leader in the Campus Catholics ministry so it was natural that I would reach out to her.  Anyways, we became friends — even though I was a little baby bird freshie and she was I think a Junior or Senior.  Well, as aforementioned, she has a brother who also attended the college.  It turns out his roommate was my husband.

I actually met my husband’s bedroom before I ever met my husband because I was with the Godmother visiting their house one day to talk with the third roommate about songs for Mass.  Neither my husband or Godfather was there, just the third roommate, but I got a quick tour of the house, including their bedrooms.  The third roommate would later marry another freshie who I actually recruited into Campus Catholics.  He was also a groomsmen at our wedding and they are still dear friends today.

So, we are all still good friends, despite distance, and they all managed to be there for the first kid in the group’s Baptism.  It was so special to both Mr. Charming and I and I hope they remain an important part of our daughter’s life.
